Youth Empowered Towards Independence (YETI) is a support agency for young people aged 12-25 years old living in Far North Queensland. YETI delivers the Just North program, which is funded to address volatile substance use (VSU) and support youth workers and other professionals working with young people in Far North Queensland. YETI is committed to safeguarding your privacy and the privacy of the young people we work with. The primary purpose for collecting information about VSU among young people in Queensland is to enable the provision of best practice service delivery, including supply reduction, capacity building and resource distribution. Information about VSU incidents is also used to alert YETI to incidents in the communities the organisation is funded to service and inform service networks in areas not serviced by YETI. This Privacy Statement aligns with YETI’s Privacy and Confidentiality Policy. The policy is governed by the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and is aligned to The Information Privacy Act 2009 (Qld). A copy of the Australian Privacy Principles may be obtained from the website of The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at www.oaic.gov.au.

What information is collected?
YETI VSU Online collects information about incidences of VSU among young people in Queensland. Service providers, retail businesses and members of the public may provide an incident report using the website. The website will collect information about the reporter and non-identifying information about the young person included in the report.

Information collected about reporters includes the information reporters voluntarily provide to YETI (name, email address or phone number) and information that may be automatically collected about reporters (website use statistics).

Information collected about young people includes non-identifying demographic information and incident details such as the location, date and circumstances of the incident. A reporter may provide as much or as little information about the incident as they wish.

How is this information stored and used?
Reporter contact details are used by YETI’s VSU program team to make contact with a reporter to verify information included in a report and to provide support and services to the reporter. Reporter contact details are not stored by YETI and are permanently deleted once a report is closed. A reporter has the right to remain anonymous; however, this may limit the extent of support a worker may be able to provide.

Anonymous information collected by YETI VSU Online including the time of report submission and session duration are used for statistical purposes only.

All information collected by the website is securely stored and managed by YETI.
